137.5 kilograms — that’s exactly how much the largest pumpkin grown in Ukraine weighs. The record holder is farmer Igor Makukha from the village of Suvorovka in the Dnipropetrovsk region. His achievement has already been confirmed by the National Record Registry, and now the whole country knows about this vegetable giant.
How it all Began
It all started with a seed of the “Atlantic Giant” variety, which is known for its ability to grow fruits weighing over 100 kg. There are only a few such pumpkins in the world. To achieve such a result in Ukrainian conditions, not only fertilizers and care were needed, but also true inspiration.
Igor is not experimenting with large pumpkins for the first time, but it was this year that he managed to grow a true giant — weighing 137.5 kg. It took four men to deliver it to Kyiv for record registration — the vegetable simply did not fit into standard transport containers.
Record Celebration

The official registration took place in Kyiv during the Pumpkin Fest on October 19, 2024. The event gathered many spectators — everyone wanted to see the giant in person, which had already been dubbed the “national pride”. During the festival, the pumpkin was carefully weighed, its circumference, diameter, and height were measured, and it was officially entered into the Ukrainian Book of Records as the largest pumpkin grown in the country.
The festival also created a special photo zone where everyone could take a souvenir photo — with a pumpkin that resembles a small sofa rather than a garden crop.
